ABSTRACT

Hemodialysis is an active form of treatment of patients with acute and chronic renal failure. The basic physical principles include: diffusion, ultrafiltration and adsorption. The usual direction of patient's blood and dialysate fluid exchange is from blood to dialysate, and in a small part in the opposite direction. Diffusion is the main mechanism for elamination uraemic toxins and metabolism waste products elimination, while ultrafiltration provides water overload correction. In this work we showed the basic physical principles which provide substances and solute exchange between blood and dialysate compartments.
